Fall Window Check List

Fall Window Checklist

Fall is almost over, get your windows and doors prepared for what’s to come. It is important to take care of your windows and doors so that they perform to their fullest potential in the brutal winter months.  This checklist may also help you determine if it is time to replace your windows and doors.

·         Examine The Window & Door:

Repair any damage to interior or exterior finish. Inspect the exterior caulking around the outer edges of the window frame. Seal off any gaps with a good quality caulk.

·         Check Weatherstripping:

Weatherstripping is designed to act as a barrier between the sash and frame to reduce air and water infiltration. Make sure it is still effective.

·         Clean Built Up Debris:

Clean any sand, dirt or dust from door and window hinges, sills and tracks. Debris can jeopardize the tightness of the seal around your window/door.

·         Lock Your Window & Door:

Windows and doors perform at their best when they are in their locked position. So make sure that they are locked, not just closed!

·         Remove Screens

and put on storm windows (if applicable). This will prevent damage caused in the winter months.

Hopefully this Fall Window Checklist will help your windows perform at their peak. Did you do all this and your still feel drafts around your windows or doors? It may be time to think about window replacement. Get a free in-home window consultation by visiting us here: https://www.wdbrownell.com/installation/
