Who doesn’t want to look and feel your best these days? Just opened in Burlington at the end of May is Bijou Blu Spa, a holistic healing and wellness center that offers unique services to help you do just that.

Owner Annie Spencer takes pride in centering her business around cryotherapy, a vibroacoustic dry float treatment and BrainTap to aid clients who come in with different kinds of pain, sore muscles, lack of sleep or depression and leave rejuvenated and more mentally fit.

“I’ve always worked for myself and wanted to create a business around working with people to create a holistic healing and wellness center,” said Spencer. “I knew I wanted to center my space around the whole body cryotherapy and, from careful research, I added all my other services that would have the same holistic/healing approach.”

Cryotherapy is a pain treatment procedure that uses a method of localized freezing temperatures to deaden an irritated nerve. Spencer said she uses it because she “loves healing people” and wanted to do it in a non-invasive, painless way.

“Research shows that cryotherapy drops your skin temperature between 30 to 50 degrees which then drastically decreases inflammation, spikes your serotonin levels, and gives you that extra pep after a long day,” said Spencer. “It’s excellent for muscles, joints, the fascia and anything that hurts.”

Vibroacoustic therapy is a naturopathic therapy that uses light and sound waves to restore your brain’s natural balance, according to Spencer. It is helpful for relieving anxiety and stress, arthritis, symptoms of Parkinson’s, insomnia, migraines, and more. It leads to immediate and deep physical relaxation.

“Basically, it’s a heated waterbed that has magnets in it to make the bed vibrate,” said Spencer. “In a 20-minute session, you’ll listen to specific healing sounds to help balance your brain and body.”

The dry float an put an individual through a full cycle of REM in 20 minutes while calming stress so clients can completely relax, Spencer explained.

“We have clients who walk away and say, ‘That was amazing!’” said Spencer.

BrainTap is a program that helps to restore your brain’s natural balance in order to feel relaxed, rebooted and revitalized. It creates brainwave activity, a feeling of calm and is based on neuro-algorithms to guide the brain through a broad range of brainwave patterns instead of just the Alpha state. The result is a spectrum of brainwave activity.

“We offer a 20-minute session of BrainTap that is a guided meditation with hypnosis that exercises your brain to aid a person to completely control their mind,” said Spencer. “The sessions consist of areas that may be difficult for people, i.e. better eating, better sleeping, and a more positive outlook on life.”

Spencer said she named her new business Bijou Blu Spa after researching names that she felt were unique.

“I love the French language and Bijou means small and elegant, and Blu is my color symbol of cold,” she noted.
