Vermont Shakespeare Company presents WILL by Jon Glascoe
Staged reading directed by John Nagle and featuring Eric Sheffer- Stevens as William Shakespeare. Eric is a film, TV and stage actor last seen opposite John Lithgow in King Lear at the Delacorte Theatre in NYC.
WILL is a partially fictionalized chronicle of Shakespeare’s experiences during the period in his life when he was about to write Hamlet. It is the eve of the Essex Rebellion, a plot to overthrow Queen Elizabeth, for which Shakespeare is accused of having had a part in inciting. Glascoe offers an unflinching exploration of the era’s political unrest and royal influence as well as the personal pain and artistic dreams of the man we have come to know as the greatest playwright of all time.
